Chapter 5: Scheme
Suzhen shrugged. It didn’t matter.
But in Leng Xue’s eyes there was a trace of suspicion, “will you sell it knowing you can lose money?”
She put her hands behind her head and laughed a little. She didn’t say anything. This content belongs to anne’scorner, if you’re reading it somewhere else it was stolen.
As a precious and beloved thing, the blue-robed man took his own treasure to exchange for his seventh brother. This was to her taste. A gentleman couldn’t take advantage of others. She had her own valuable things.
It was night outside, he finished his bed on the floor and said, “I will go out and buy some snacks to eat on the road tomorrow.”
Suzhen stared at him, “what do you want to do by bribing me with food?”
Failing his tactic, Leng Xue said, “tomorrow we will continue on the trail.”
He said he was going out and turned away, Suzhen covered her stomach and groaned. Leng Xue was startled and immediately turned back. He raised his eyebrows and said, “don’t trick me. I am still in high spirits now.”
Suzhen shook her head. She said she was afraid her monthly letter had come.
She didn’t need to shy away from Leng Xue. He had been in her house for many years. He knew that she was in a lot of pain when her monthly letter came. He frowned when he heard that, he wanted to help her lie down.
Suzhen shook her head to stop him. She had read some books and knew a little about medicine. She wrote a prescription and asked Leng Xue to pick up the medicine for her.
Without saying a word, Len Xue took the prescription and went out. He was quick, in the blink of an eye he had the medicine boiled and brought over to her by the waiter.
Looking at the dark and bitter medicine, Suzhen refused to touch it. He was so angry he wanted to beat her. He frowned and picked a plum1 from the newly candied fruit they had bought, he put it on her lips. “After eating this, you need to take the medicine.” This content belongs to anne’scorner, if you’re reading it somewhere else it was stolen.
“If you drink it with me, I will drink.”
Leng Xue’s face darkened, but he eventually took two sips from the bowl. He stared at her, “it’s your turn.”
Leng Xue’s face changed, his eyebrows up. He suddenly dropped the bowl and his body fell on the bed trembling.
“This is not medicine! You… set me up!” He stared at her intently, his voice deep with anger.
Suzhen stood by the bed and nodded, “when I was a child, I lied to you saying that there were mosquitoes biting me. You would quietly guard my room at night, not sleeping so you could drive the mosquitoes away. So, how could you be willing to take through the forest trail? You said you were going to buy snacks, but you actually wanted to get the opportunity to go out and get information, right? My father is full of bad ideas. No one ever knows what he is planning or thinking. He can do such things as asking me to disguise myself as a man and get the title of Number One Scholar. But it doesn’t rule out other reasons. For example, wanting me to take refuge.”
She looked at Leng Xue who was desperately struggling to get up, and knew that the suspicions she had been having for several days might be true. Her heart sank as she quickly stepped out of the room.
Len Xue not only intended to hide it from her, knowing him, even if he were to be killed, it would be impossible to get anything out of his mouth. That was the reason she never asked, as well as the reason she didn’t have to ask now. Once asked, she would beat the grass to scare the snake2. It was impossible to attack. Moreover, he was highly skilled in martial arts, even if she attacked him she wouldn’t be able to succeed. She waited for several days so he would not suspect anything, and then tricked him into drinking the boiling medicine she had asked for.
She stood in the courtyard with her hands clasped, distressed for the first time in her life.
Something may have happened to the Feng family! Her father managed to drive her out to keep her from disaster… Heaven forbid, she hoped she could still make it!
